With the generous support of board member Lin Wilensky and her husband Ron, Lakeside was able to model this program after another successful and similar program in Virginia. At Dave’s House, residents are offered the opportunity to permanently live in a safe environment with the support of Lakeside’s behavioral healthcare resources. Residents in the Dave’s House program are typically high-functioning individuals that are able to live in the house with minimal supervision. Residents at Dave’s House live much like you and me… they cook, clean, grocery shop and work, but they also receive a little additional support from Lakeside. Named for Lin Wilensky’s brother, Dave, the program site(s) are located in Central Florida. Dave spent the last 15 years of his life in a supportive housing program, and during those 15 years, he never had to be hospitalized for any mental health-related issues. Lakeside and its supporters hope that this program grows from one house to many in the years to come.
